Is Dream Girl 2 a flop already?

Four years after the release of the first Dream Girl, which was enjoyable for its eccentric setup and premise, director Raaj Shaandilyaa serves this comedy. The film collected almost 10 crores on it’s day 1. The basis of the second film is similar. If Karamveer (Ayushmann Khurrana) wishes to wed Pari Shrivastav (Ananya Pandey), he must swiftly raise a sizable sum of money. He then works as a dancer at Sona Bhai’s (Vijay Raaz) bar while posing as Pooja. Following that, the film doesn’t really add anything new for the next 133 minutes. The writers Raaj and Naresh Kathooria attempted to boost the comedy, but the story went off the rails and became basically a jumble of characters and scenarios pursuing one another.

While the viewer makes an effort to keep up with the characters’ antics, some scenes drag on, like when Karam alternates between being himself and Pooja. Many comedic moments feel overly contrived and only serve to enhance the movie. The one-liners in this movie are tacky and occasionally fall flat, unlike the dialogue in comedies, where the comic timing of the lines is crucial to getting the audience to laugh. When trying to persuade Karam to become a dancer, his friend Smiley (Manjot Singh) remarks, “Shakti nahi bachi par Shakti Kapoor poora bacha hai,” referring to an elderly patron on the dance floor.

In the movie, Ayushmann Khurrana expertly shifts between playing Karam and Pooja. He excels in the dancing sequences in particular and executes the latkas and jhatkas flawlessly. His talent for situational comedy shines through, and he is responsible for some of the movie’s funniest scenes. Ananya Panday’s performance opportunities are limited, and she has trouble delivering conversation in Braj Bhasha consistently. While Paresh Rawal, Seema Pahwa, Vijay Raaz, Manjot Singh, and Abhishek Banerjee all contribute admirably, Annu Kapoor shines out.
